45° Cloud Platform Assessment

Cloud Adoption starts with experimenting.  Doing Proof of Concepts is a key strategy to start cloud journeys.  Before you know, you have several workloads running in the cloud.  All Proof of Concept mode, officially at least...  But your business doesn't see it like that.  They see them as business critical.  And they are asking more.  And fast...

In the ideal world, after some experimenting and learning, you do foundational platform work.  Of course you don't want 8 workloads in the cloud, all using their own security implementation.  Just to call out one example.  You also don't want to stop your business partners in their transformation.  That is where a platform assessment, using the Well Architected Framework comes in.  We help you to assess your landing zone and each cloud workload using this framework against cloud best practices.  And we help you to bring back structure to your cloud architecture.

Approach
You have one or more workloads running in the cloud.  We use the Well Architected Framework of Microsoft or AWS to assess the architecture of these and put them up against best practices.  We do this by workload.  This initial review should not be a short engagement.  We use the tools available from the cloud vendors to structure this engagement.

5 Pillars

The framework consists of 5 pillars of architecture excellence: Cost Optimization, Operational Excellence, Performance Efficiency, Reliability and Security.

The review process needs to be done in a consistent, blame-free approach that encourages a deep dive.  The outcome of the review is a set of actions that should either improve the experience of a customer using the workload or offer benefits for the IT department running the workload.  We don't provide a rubber-stamp on an architecture.

WAF

Operational Excellence Pillar

The Operational Excellence pillar includes the ability to support development and run workloads effectively, gain insights into the operations, and continue to improve supporting processes and procedures to delivery business value.

Operational Excellence Pillar

Cost Pillar

The Cost Pillar includes the ability to run systems to deliver business value at the lowest price point.

Cost Pillar

Performance Efficiency Pillar

The Performance Efficiency pillar includes the ability to use computing resources efficiently to meet system requirements, and to maintain that efficiency as demand changes and technology evolves.

Performance Efficiency Pillar

Reliability Pillar

The Reliability Pillar includes the ability of a workload to perform its intended function correctly and consistently.  This includes the ability to operate and test the workload through its total lifecycle.

Reliability Pillar

Security Pillar

The Security Pillar includes the ability to protect data, systems, and assets to take advantage of cloud technology in a secure way.
